Drug Testing Basics

Drug testing, for those of you who’ve never heard of it and have no idea at all, is the process of testing a person for suspected drug abuse in the body system. It starts from collection of samples from the person and ends in the evaluation and interpretation of drug test results. Drug tests are performed using specimens taken from the saliva, blood, hair, urine and sometimes on the fingernails.

Pass a saliva drug test

When you are asked to provide a blood drug test, a small amount of blood will be extracted from your arm, for urine samples, you will be ordered to provide a sample in the midst of a medical supervisor to ensure that the sample your about to submit is yours. The samples are then sent to the lab for examinations.

Drug tests can be expected to be extremely accurate and reliable when every step of the process is performed properly. Drug testing is used mainly to check for a person suspected of using illegal drugs. Drug testing may be encountered when applying for a job in companies before they can consider hiring you. Drug testing may also be used to detect possible overdose or poisoning that lead to an accident. It is also used in rehabilitation programs to monitor the compliance of the patients to their intended program. Drug testing can also be powerful evidence in court to judge whether or not the accused is innocent or guilty. Drug tests are a very useful tool for both legal and medical purposes. Drugs that are most commonly tested for are: cocaine, heroin, morphine, amphetamines, methadone, barbiturates and marijuana.

Drugs Can Be Detected

Preparing for a drug test is not necessary but it would help if you read some topics regarding the test before the actual day of your drug test so that you will have an idea of the do’s and don’ts. You wouldn’t want a false positive as the outcome of your drug test. It is often performed on random basis or a scheduled exam. Both can also be seen often in a workplace or on government agencies. Drug testing kits are also popular today and are sold on the internet. Be advised though, that some drug kits are not reliable and may cause confusion when used. It is best to be tested by medical professionals on a hospital or a clinic to be 100% accurate of the end results to save time and money.

    Hi, dotdotdot.
You have big chances to pass. If you haven’t provide first morning piss as a sample and if you’re not overweighted – mostly sure you’ve passed.
If no – just ask for a retest. In a 3 weeks you’ll be clean to pass any lab test but hair.

I had a DOT random drug test in September of 2011. The collector did not follow federal required procedures. Specifically she had me fill out the control custody form while my urine specimen was unattended, unsealed, and out of my direct view which left it open for swapping/compromise. She then had me initial the seals while they were still on the form, which is in violation of the SAMSHA mandatory guidelines of urine collection procedures. My test came back positive for cocaine. Huge problem I don’t do drugs!! I sent this information to the DOT Office of Drug and Alcohol Policy and Compliance along with proof the collector was non compliant and they responded stating “We have reviewed your information and have concluded the test result is valid and the collector followed MOST of the federally required procedures “. They went on to identify the fact the seals were not on the bottles when they were dated and initialed but called this simply a procedural error. There are protections in the regulations to protect the donor from procedural errors that significantly affect the employee rights to a fair and accurate test but when the enforcing Government agency chooses to ignore these regulations the damage to the employee is great. I have since gotten a hair test using body hair that will show ANY drug use in the last 12 months (approx), that of course came back negative. Hair tests are very sensitive to cocaine. The collection site has always been the “I weak link” in the drug testing process but in the Governments eyes it is because the donor can cheat the test. Never has it crossed their minds that it could include a dishonest, incompetent, non compliant collector. Until regulations are enforced innocent people will be found guilty with little or no recourse. There should be no ” civilian casualties” in the war on drugs. I need help in getting my test cancelled and in making sure this doesn’t happen to anybody else. Thank you
